Let’s get the ugly business out of the way. If you dragged yourself to the radio at 2 AM last Tuesday expecting a live Rolling with Scissors and got an archive instead, you deserve the truth, and the truth is this: a possum got into the closet where the NAS lives and declared it a sovereign nation. There was a standoff. There were demands — mostly cat food, one deeply unsettling request for a vintage microphone. Around 3 AM the little bastard chewed through the Ethernet cable, hissed at me like I owed it money, and claimed the 2.4 GHz band as ancestral land. I lost a live show to a fucking possum. We ran a rerun. The possum has since been relocated to a lovely wooded area where it can no longer touch my RAID array. I will not be taking questions.
Agent K Rides Again
This week the entire night belongs to another installment of the Agent K files, and you need to understand what you’re strapping into. Agent K doesn’t walk into a room — he detonates inside it. Picture a rented convertible screaming across the Nevada desert at four in the morning, top jammed down, trunk full of four-track tapes and a grapefruit nobody can explain, the driver grinning at a horizon that keeps moving away. That’s the man. That’s the music.
Hour One is CKap’s Songs From A Sad Cafe, start to finish. Sixteen tracks of legendary hitmen, bartenders with empty hearts, cowboys tripping hard under open sky, and a Telefunken answering machine that has heard things no machine should ever hear. It’s gorgeous and it’s dangerous, and we play it whole, because chopping it into pieces would be an act of cowardice this show refuses to commit.
Then we go off the cliff on purpose. Hours Two and Three are Kingfinger: the 2002 self-titled record in its entirety, then every last second of Letters From Earth from 2003, bonus track included. Two complete albums, back to back, twenty-plus years old and still twitching on the floor. “Beat The Machine (John Henry)” rolls back into town — regulars know that song has been stalking this program for months — and this time it brought the whole damn family.
Is three straight hours of one man’s catalog a sane programming decision? Hell no. Is it the right one? Without a single doubt.
Wear the Show, Feed the Station
In case you skimmed past the last post: the Rolling with Scissors merch shop is open at shop.rwsradio.com — logo tee, hoodie, stickers. And here’s the part that actually matters: we make zero dollars off it. None. Every cent of profit goes straight to WORT. You walk around looking like the most interesting person at the bar, community radio keeps the transmitter glowing, and the possum gets nothing. Ever.
Clock’s Ticking
This episode lives in the WORT archive for two weeks. After that it vanishes into the desert like everything else. Don’t sleep on it.
