If you’re still checking this frequency, you know exactly how last week ended. Cronauer and Audrey pinned under a blinding white spotlight on an old timber bridge, looking down the barrels of Aegis carbines, with Norm’s Checker Marathon sitting dead in the road.
That wasn’t just a bad night in the Driftless. That was the final frame of Book One.
When this story started rolling out of the typewriter, it was about finding the wires, scavenging the solar arrays, and proving that a pirate signal could still scratch the paint off a corporate occupation. But after the details Dave just dropped about the Super-EMP and the feudal dragnet closing in on Viroqua, the scale has officially changed. The hardware is locked in place, the stakes are drawn, and the line has been crossed.
Solder and Silence
Every good broadcast needs a brief cooling cycle before you blow the tubes. We are taking the transmitter offline for a minute to breathe, recalculate the weight distribution on the Mule, and get the next stack of pages lined up.
There will be no new chapter code uploaded next Friday.
The Coordinates for Book Two
The silence won’t last long. The signal returns, the smoke clears, and the hot war for the sky begins on Friday, September 11th at midnight.
We’ll find out exactly who gave up the coordinates on that bridge, what Bill Norman is doing with a rucksack full of retired guardrails, and whether the mast on Nottingham Ridge ever gets to sing.
Until then, keep your hand-cranks close, keep your headlamps on red, and don’t trust any lights in the sky.
