Before You Hit Play on Book Two — Read This First

Alright, real talk for a second.

You’re about to click into “Hot Carrier” — Chapter 28, the opening chapter of Book Two — and if you’ve been counting along since the beginning, the numbers are about to feel a little weird. That’s not a mistake, and it’s not you losing track. Let me clear the air before the static kicks back in.

I’ve been going back through Book One doing a real editorial pass — tightening early chapters, patching continuity holes, fixing a few things I’ve been quietly embarrassed by since the day I hit publish. That work lives in a private master copy right now, not out here on the site. Everything you’ve already read stays exactly as it was when you read it. Nothing’s getting deleted, nothing’s getting rewritten out from under you.

Why bother at all? Because I’m starting to seriously think about putting Signal Drift out as an actual book someday — not just something that lives in a WordPress category at 2 a.m. If that ever happens, the “clean” version and the version you’re reading right now might not line up number for number. When that day comes, I’ll make it loud and obvious. Until then, this blog is the original, uncut broadcast — same as it’s always been.

The one thing I am fixing right now: there was a gap in the numbering heading into Book Two. Chapter 28 is correct — that’s “Hot Carrier,” and that’s where Book Two actually kicks off. If it looked like it was about to jump to 35 or 36, that was a placeholder error on my end, not missing chapters you somehow skipped.

So: no lost chapters, no rewritten past, no bait and switch. Just a broadcaster tightening the signal before it goes any further out. Same story, same characters, same fight against the silence.

Hit play. Chapter 28 goes live at midnight.
