If You’re Listening, Steve…

Dear Steve,

I never met you, but I saw you once—in a dream, or a moment, or maybe just in my head when I needed you to show up.

You walked into a coffee shop like you belonged there. No fanfare. Just that damn turtleneck and those shoes. You looked right at me, then down at the wheels. You saw how Gippy I am. I didn’t have to say anything. You got it.

You always got it.

That’s why I’m writing you now, even if you’ll never read this. Because somebody out there needs a tap on the shoulder. A whisper in the ear. A jolt of vision.

We’re so close, Steve.

We carry supercomputers in our pockets. We can 3D print bones. Rockets are private now. But I still have to hold a goddamn phone and poke at a screen like it’s 2007. And don’t get me wrong—you made 2007 magical. You made the future real. But we’re stuck in the bridge. We haven’t crossed yet.

I don’t want to hold the internet anymore. I want to wear it. I want it to disappear into the frame of my glasses, into my voice, into a glance. I want a map to float in front of my eyes when I’m lost. I want a message whispered to me when my hands are full. I want to respond with a nod. I want freedom, not another interface.

I know Apple tried. Vision Pro was a hell of a swing. But you? You would’ve launched the home run. You would’ve skipped the headset and gone straight to the glasses. Lightweight. Sleek. Useful. You would’ve fought like hell to get it there faster.

Because you always knew: tech isn’t about features. It’s about removing friction. The best devices aren’t loud—they disappear.

So here’s what I’m asking: if there’s any cosmic relay, if there’s still a backchannel from wherever you are, tap somebody on the shoulder. Whisper what needs to be whispered. Show them the path.

Because I know it’s coming. I can almost feel it. And when it arrives—not just for me, but for everyone whose body gets in the way of living—it’ll be a revolution.

And it’ll have your fingerprints on it.

Thanks for everything you gave us.

But more than anything?

Thanks for making us believe we could ask for more.
