They’re Coming for Us – Again

If you read my blog post from last night—or maybe the one from the other day, depending on when you’re seeing this—you already know what’s happening in California is just the tip of the spear. Now we’ve got a full-on coordinated attack, and the Trump administration is going after the very foundation of disability rights in America: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Let me say this clearly for the people in the back: Section 504 is the reason I can function in public. It’s the reason there are ramps, elevators, curb cuts, accessible restrooms, and nondiscrimination in programs that take federal funds. And now they’re trying to strip it away—quietly, surgically, under the radar—unless we stop them.

But let’s not pretend this is new. We crawled our way into courtrooms, sure—but before that, we literally crawled up the steps of the Capitol in Washington, DC. Go look it up. Wheelchairs left behind, bodies on the stone, dragging themselves hand over hand to prove a fucking point. That was 1990. And now I have to ask—

Do we have to do that again?

Because I swear to God, I’m about ready to say it: If you’re disabled, or if you know someone who is, maybe it’s time to pack a bag. Maybe it’s time for a hundred million of us to take over Washington DC—roll in, limp in, crawl in, however we have to get there—and shove this crisis in their faces.

And I’m not just talking about civilians. Disabled veterans—you’re getting screwed too. They just paint your bucket with a “VA” label and hope you won’t notice it’s the same damn system failing you. They treat you like heroes on stage and burdens in the budget. You earned your right to healthcare, housing, access, and dignity, and they’re gutting it right alongside ours.

So yeah, this post is angry. It’s brutal. But it has to be.

Because this isn’t a drill. The Department of Energy is trying to erase accessibility from future construction projects. They’re doing it with a “direct final rule”—a loophole that goes into effect July 15 unless enough people raise hell by June 16.

At the same time, the Department of Justice is withdrawing ADA guidance documents, quietly unraveling enforcement behind the scenes. And a lawsuit out of Texas tried to declare Section 504 unconstitutional—they backed off that for now, but they’re still going after everything the new rules try to protect.

This is coordinated. This is real. And this is dangerous.

We fought like hell for every inch of progress. We bled, we sued, we marched, we crawled—literally—and now they want to quietly roll it back while everyone’s looking at whatever the hell Trump said last on Truth Social?

Nah. Not on my watch.

He’s got to go. Not just because he’s an embarrassment to decency, but because he’s actively trying to erase us. Every executive order, every regulatory rollback, every smirk from that smug administration—it’s war on the disabled, plain and simple.

So I’m saying it now: Let’s mobilize. Let’s speak up. Let’s show up. Let’s shove it in their face if we have to. I don’t care how many people it pisses off—because if we don’t act now, they’re going to fuck things up for a lot of people.

And this time, we’re not going to crawl quietly.

What You Can Do Right Now

  1. Submit a public comment to the Department of Energy before June 16 telling them to STOP the rollback of Section 504 protections.
  2. Contact your representatives and tell them you expect them to speak out against this attack on disability rights.
  3. Share this post. Talk about it. Blow it up. Don’t assume people know this is happening. The more people who see it, the harder it is for them to make these changes quietly.
  4. Disabled veterans: Contact your VA reps. Raise hell. Demand statements. Make it political. Because it already is.
  5. If you’re ready to roll to DC? Say it. Mean it. We’re not organizing a march—yet—but if this rule stands, it’s time to start seriously talking about direct action.
