Let’s start with the obvious — there were no episode notes or show post last week. If you noticed the absence, I appreciate you sticking around. The truth is, I got walloped by a bug right in the middle of assembling the show. One minute I was lining up tracks, the next I had a splitting headache and couldn’t see straight. So if last week’s Rolling with Scissors felt a little off, well… it was. My apologies. I promise to make up for it this week.
Now, let’s talk Signal Drift. I’ve been cranking out a new chapter every week for the past 15 weeks, and there are still more in the hopper. That said, I’ll be taking a short break from the weekly release cycle. I’m heading back to Wisconsin on July 16 and might return to Florida around August 14 — unless I find an apartment up north, which is a very real possibility.
You might be thinking, “But can’t you write while you’re on vacation?” Sure — and I probably will. But if I don’t, it’s because I’ll be doing something just as important: living, observing, recharging — and gathering the kind of perspective that makes Signal Drift worth reading in the first place.
See, most people write a book start to finish, then publish it. But when you serialize like this, it’s a constant balancing act — writing, editing, plotting, posting — all in real time. And after 15 weeks straight, I’ll be honest: I need a breather. I haven’t taken a proper break in seven years.
Don’t worry — Rolling with Scissors isn’t going anywhere. I’ll still be doing the show, and there’s even a chance I might do a couple of episodes live from the WORT studios in Madison while I’m in town. We’ll see how that plays out.
So yes, there’s more coming. It just might be on a slightly different rhythm for a few weeks. Thanks for understanding — and for being here.
